I acquired this book from a private collection of a respected scientist in
Cleveland, Ohio who was an avid collector of antique science and technical
books. There is a receipt inside the book showing he purchased it from a
specialty bookstore for $74.50 in April, 1993. It was gently handled and
treasured down through the years.
CONDITION: This antique book is complete and intact, in very good condition
for its age. The Leather Half Bound covers are in good condition with some
age-expected edge and corner wear. Both covers have a marble finish adjacent to
the leather areas. The inside covers and endpapers have the same marble finish
as the covers. The inside covers are in good condition, with minor cracking and
separation at the front hinge but the board is firmly attached to the binding.
The back hinge is fine. The front inside cover endpaper is loose in the book,
this is the only page loose in the book. The pages are all in very good
condition, tight to the binding. I did not see any foxing on any pages,
including those with illustrations or opposite illustrations. The first blank
page is the only page that has any writing on it; the original owner wrote
notes about the contents of this book. The leather spine is in very good
condition with light shelf wear at the very edges, the gold gilt lettering is
easily read.
This is an interesting, RARE antique science book that will make for a nice
addition to your collection!
