This is an original framed sampler from 1885. It was made by "Della Age 17".
It features a big pink eagle with a banner stating "E Pluribus Unum" in his
beak. There are chickens on either side of the eagle. It has 2 alphabets and
a row of numbers. I would like to know the name of the stitch used
throughout. The framed sampler is 17" by 16 & 1/2". There is glass over the
sampler and I have not taken the piece apart. I can seen some darkened places
and some that looks as if they have been darned or a rather poor attempt made
at patching several worned spots. Overall it makes a great impression with
very good color, an unusual motif and size.
