Hand Painted Hanging Scroll
TITLE : Ataka-No-Seki (From Kanjincho)
Kanjincho (The Subscription List) is a kabuki dance-drama by Namiki Gohei III,
based on the Noh play Ataka. It is one of the most popular plays in the modern
kabuki repertory. It depicts the verbal fencing that occurs when Minamoto no
Yoshitsune, Benkei, and their party are passing throughAtaka-no-seki (Ataka
Checkpoint) as they escape to Hiraizumi in Oshu (Iwate Prefecture).
Signature (Seal) : KANO TSUNENOBU (1636-1713) was the eldest son of Kano
Naonobu (1607-1650). After his father's death in 1650, he became the head of
Kobikicho line of Kano school. In 1704, he received the honorary title ofHogen
the second highest priestly rank in Buddhism) and in 1709 the most coveted
title ofHoin (the highest rank among Buddhist priests). After his death, he was
buried at Honmonji, a temple in the Ikegami area of Edo (Tokyo). He is one of
the BIG 4 Kano masters.

sometimes overlook something. Most of the items are very old and not mint
condition. Also the judgement in very difficult. Please look at the pictures
carefully and ask questions before bidding. They have age appropriate flaws.
So, if you are nervous about any flaws and damages, please refrain from bidding
on our items.
