DESCRIPTION:Only a few slight, minor surface abrasions and specks of enamel
paint loss, mar this otherwise extraordinarymid to late 19th century Latin
American (Mexico) antique retablo oil painting of a 'Santo' on tin sheet, titled
Caridad' and depicting a Franciscan monk, wearing a traditional brown hooded
robe, clutching a rosary close to his heart and holding a long staff. In very
well-preserved overall antique condition, considering it's now nearly, if not,
125 to 155 years old. The retablo painting is still extraordinarily bright,
with well-preserved surfaces and almost fully saturated, vivid, bright and
nearly undiminished original oil paint. TheseLatin American and usually Mexican
antique tin retablo paintings on tin, were fairly omnipresent in 19th century Me
xico, with them often being displayed in family shrines inside rural homes. Of
course, the influence ofChristianity, as brought by the Spaniards to Latin
America and easily recognizable Catholic graphic iconography in particular, are
evident. Simply fantastic. One killermid to late 19th century Mexican antique
retablo oil painting on tin. Wonderful. CONDITION:Good to Very Good overall
antique condition.
